Summer 2015

I am excited about some live performances I will be doing this summer. On June 13th I will be at the JW Marriott in downtown Grand Rapids MI from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm with some old friends Bill Boris on guitar and David Hilliker on drums. Joing us on bass will be a new friend Dave Rosin. It is a great spot to hear live music and enjoy the sites of downtown and the Grand River.

On July 8th I will be returning to Taste Of Chicago for a performance at the Gallo Wine Garden from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. A great spot right next to Buckingham Fountain and great views of my hometown!

On July 9th, 16th and August 6th I will be at the Art Institute of Chicago to perform at the Thursday night Jazz Series put together by Chicago Jazz Magazine and myself. This is the second year Mike Jeffers and I are putting this series on for the Art Institute.

On August 15 I am very pleased to announce that I am playing at the GRandJazzFest in Rosa Park circle downtown Grand Rapids MI. The Mike Frost Project 2.0 will be on at 3:30 pm EST This is a great free festival on August 15 and 16 We are happy to be apart of it this year.

I hope to see some of you out there this summer, Mike

Isthmus Jazz Festival

Saturday we had the pleasure of performing at The Isthmus Jazz Festival in Madison. It was a perfect day for an outdoor concert on the water. The crowd was enormous and the weather was great. The band played a wonderful set of music and the audience was receptive. I want to thank Gary Alderman, Ben Ferish and everyone involved with the festival for having us perform and making our experience so pleasurable. Can’t wait to do some more playing in Madison. What a great town.

Sonny Rollins

I had the pleasure of attending Sonny Rollins 80th birthday concert last month at the Beacon Theatre in New York. It was a very special night to say the least. Sonny was amazing and the band was on fire. Special guest included Roy Haynes, Christian McBride, Jim Hall,  Roy Hargrove, and Ornette Coleman. It was a once in a lifetime concert to see all of these legends on the same stage. I won’t  ever forget it!

Club Blujazz

The past several months have been quite hectic getting Club Blujazz ready to open. I think the results of the hard work show. Chicago has another great venue for jazz to be proud of. I am playing there on Wednesday nights with Demos Petropoulos on organ, David Hilliker on drums, Steve on trumpet and myself on sax. On saturday night late sets starting at 11:30pm I host a jam session with the guys. We have had a lot of people come by and sit in. We usually go until 2:00 am so if you are out and about or finished with a gig stop by and bring your ax. The club looks great and has a natural sound. On weekends they feature national acts. Fred Hersch, Mike Melvoin, and Ingrid Jensen have played so far. Ingrid sat in with my group on the late set and we had a blast. You can check the full schedule at the website clubblujazz.com Hope to see you there. Mike

Sunday night I played at Vintage 51 in the Horseshue Casino in Hammond. The quartet was David Hilliker on drums, Demos Petropoulos on piano, Nick Schneider on bass and myself on sax. The group played some very special music together and it was one of my favorite gigs in a while. I am back there with a trio on December 18th from 8:30 until midnight to perform for the crowd after the Boney James concert at the Venue that night. The quartet will be back on December 27th from 6:00 until 10:00 See you there, Mike

M Lounge

Steve and I sat in at the M lounge last wednesday with Roger Harris’s trio. It was a blast. If you have not been to the M Lounge you really need to stop out and check it out. They have jazz on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and it is a great club. I will be posting some video from that night on the website soon. Mike
